“The nearest faraway place,” Jekyll Island is sometimes described.
Off the coast of Brunswick, Georgia between Jacksonville, Florida and Savannah, Georgia, Jekyll Island State Park is among only a few remaining easily accessible undeveloped, quiet, and uncrowded stretches of beach along the United States’ Eastern Seaboard.
One can easily walk or ride a bicycle for several miles along the beach, in the marsh, or in the maritime forest without seeing another person. One extraordinary beach, Driftwood Beach, is considered one of the best beaches in the world.
In the late 1800 and early 1900s many of the wealthiest families in the world had winter homes on Jekyll in what was known as the “Millionaires Club.” World War II brought the Club to an end, but many of the homes have been preserved and are accessible to the public in what is now Jekyll Island’s Historic District. The Jekyll Island Club Hotel in the Historic District is one of the grandest hotels in the Southeastern U.S.
In addition, throughout the island, wildlife is abundant, and the island is a major stopover for migratory shore birds.
“The nearest faraway place” is like no other. Bring Jekyll Island into your home or office in the form of Wall Art.
